Travelling to Bowline in an EV? Here’s Your Charging Guide

Planning a drive to the mountains in your EV?

One question you probably have before choosing an offbeat nature stay is:

“Will I find an EV charger on the way?”

The good news is that you can comfortably plan an EV trip to Bowline Nature Stay, Mudigere, with charging options available on the major routes leading towards us.

And once you reach this side of Malnad, there is an EV charging station approximately 20 minutes from Bowline Nature Stay.

So whether you’re coming through Shiradi Ghat, Charmadi Ghat or Agumbe, here’s how you can plan your charging stops.

Coming via Shiradi Ghat:

If you’re travelling from Bengaluru, Hassan or Sakleshpur, you’ll most likely approach this region through the Shiradi/Sakleshpur side.

This is probably the easiest of the three routes for EV travellers because the Sakleshpur–Ballupet stretch has multiple charging options.

Current listings show chargers around Ballupet and Sakleshpur, including IndianOil e-Charge and Tata Power locations.

A simple plan would be:

Bengaluru → Hassan → Sakleshpur/Ballupet → Mudigere → Bowline

Top up around Sakleshpur or Ballupet before heading deeper into the hills.

Coming via Charmadi Ghat:

If you’re travelling from the Mangaluru, Udupi or coastal Karnataka side through Charmadi, your route will generally take you towards Ujire → Charmadi → Mudigere.

For this route, we strongly recommend checking your available charging points around the larger towns before climbing further into the Western Ghats, and travelling with a comfortable battery reserve.

Once you’re closer to Bowline, you also have the charging option approximately 20 minutes from the property.

So you don’t necessarily have to arrive at Bowline with a completely full battery.

Coming via Agumbe:

Guests travelling from the Udupi/Manipal side through Agumbe can plan charging around the larger towns before entering the more remote sections of the route.

There are EV facilities listed around the Thirthahalli/Agumbe Road region; for example, an IndianOil station on Agumbe Road in Thirthahalli has also received a recent review mentioning emergency 16A EV charging, although that should not be treated as a guaranteed fast-charging facility.

Other EV charging listings are also present around the wider Thirthahalli/Hosanagara region.

A sensible route plan is:

Udupi/Manipal → Agumbe → Thirthahalli → towards Mudigere → Bowline

Charge before entering the longer interior stretches whenever possible.

And There’s a Charger Just 20 Minutes From Bowline

This is probably the most reassuring part for our EV guests.

Even after reaching Bowline, you’re not completely cut off from charging infrastructure.

There is an EV charging point approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Bowline Nature Stay, so you can plan a top-up during your stay before beginning your return journey.

A Small Tip From Us

Mountain driving is very different from highway driving.

Steep climbs can consume considerably more energy, while descents may give some of it back through regenerative braking. Network coverage can also become patchy in parts of the Western Ghats.

So don’t plan your trip assuming you’ll reach a charger with 2% battery remaining😄

Charge whenever you have a convenient opportunity and keep a comfortable reserve before entering the ghats.

Charging locations and operational status can change, so check your vehicle’s charging app or the Government of India’s e-AMRIT charging station locator before beginning the journey.

Your EV Can Come to the Mountains Too

Driving an electric vehicle shouldn’t stop you from exploring quieter parts of Karnataka.

Plan your charging stops, take the scenic route and drive into the Western Ghats.

Your EV gets its charge.
You come to Bowline to recharge yours. 🌿
