Curious and surprised, Parashurama wondered what sacred presence lived inside the hill. He gently struck the termite mound with his axe to uncover the mystery. His axe hit a stone, leaving a small cut on its surface.
To his shock, the stone immediately began to bleed.
Parashurama realized he had unknowingly struck a Shiva Lingam. Overwhelmed with guilt, he surrendered himself to intense penance for Lord Shiva. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before him.
Shiva blessed Parashurama and asked him to apply sandalwood paste on the Lingam.
Parashurama soon applied the sandalwood paste on the ligam and the paste got blended with the lingam. This divine moment marked the beginning of a powerful living tradition.
